  • It keeps their chin above the water. A detachable float clips under the neck and holds their head up even if they stop kicking — built for nervous swimmers and first pool days.
  • One handle lifts them straight out. A reinforced strap across the back means you can pull them onto a dock, a boat, or back into the shallow end without wrestling a wet dog.
  • You can spot them from across the yard. A bright shell with reflective trim, so a swim in open water doesn't turn into you squinting at the surface.
  • Five sizes, adjustable straps. Chest and belly straps take up the slack so it sits snug on a 5-pound yorkie or an 80-pound retriever, not just the size on the box.

“The chin float sounds gimmicky until you watch her get tired mid-lake and just keep floating, face up, without paddling. That's the whole reason I bought it.”

Dana R. · Lake Geneva, WI ✓ Verified

“Pulled him straight up onto the dock by the handle, one-handed, soaking wet, no drama. Wasn't expecting to actually need that feature on day one.”

Marco P. · Duluth, MN ✓ Verified

“Took her three swims to stop trying to shake the straps off. Fits snug now and she doesn't fight it anymore — wish that part had gone faster.”

A poodle floating in a pool in the Rose vest, chin resting on the float

She hasn't gone under once since we got it

She's nine and hadn't been in water since she was a puppy, so the first swim was mostly me hovering at the edge. The float holds her head up whether she's paddling or not. By the third day I was sitting in a chair with a coffee.

A husky held up in the pool by the top handle of the vest

The handle is the part I use every single time

Short legs and a deep pool used to mean me flat on the deck hauling him out under the front legs. Now it's one hand on the handle and he's up. That's the bit nobody tells you about when you're comparing these.

A yellow Labrador walking out of the shallows in the Coral vest

Sized up once, and then it was right

First guess ran snug through the chest — the chart did warn me, I just measured in a hurry. The second one fits properly and she's stopped trying to shake it off. Docking a star because that cost us a week.

The float actually works — she stopped paddling for a second out of pure laziness and just bobbed there, chin up. Wasn't sure I'd ever see it happen for real.

Danny K. · Las Vegas, NV ✓ Verified

Five sizes and I still measured twice because he's built oddly for a lab. Glad I did — the chart matched exactly what showed up at the door.

Sofia L. · Orlando, FL ✓ Verified

My neighbor asked where I got it after seeing it at the lake twice. That's basically a review in itself at this point.

Ordered on a Tuesday, it turned up eleven days later with a tracking link that actually updated. No drama, no chasing anybody by email.

Golden retriever running through shallow water in the Foliva swim vest
Why it works

Built around the chin, not just the ribs.

Most swim vests stop at the ribcage and leave the head to fend for itself. Ours runs a soft, buoyant pad up under the jaw, clipped to the collar, so a dog who's stopped paddling is held face-up instead of tipping forward.

Dogs work out the straps in about ten seconds — mostly by trying to shake the whole thing off, then giving up.

Nothing to inflate, nothing to charge. Buckle it on before the water, not after.

In open water

The moment they're a speck near the dock, not right beside you.

A lake or a crowded pool turns your dog into one wet head among many within a few strokes. A high-visibility shell and reflective trim mean you find them at a glance instead of a squint — from the dock, from a paddleboard, from the other side of the pool.

Fit

Every dog, one afternoon

No modes, no menus — measure once, buckle, done.

01

Measure

Chest girth just behind the front legs, and neck girth where the collar sits. Both are on the size chart.

02

Buckle

Two straps, chest and belly. Snug enough that two fingers slide underneath, not more.

03

Handle check

Lift gently by the top handle before the first swim. It should hold their full weight without slipping.

04

First swim

Shallow water, five minutes, supervised. Most dogs stop noticing it by the end of the first swim.

Go by the tape, not the weight. Chest girth is what decides the size — two dogs at the same weight can be built completely differently, so measure before you order and size up if you're between two. Breed names are a rough guide, not a rule. XL is our largest, fitting a chest up to 38.6 in (98 cm) — above that we don't have a size that fits, and we'd rather say so than sell you the wrong one. We check your measurements against your order and email you before it ships.
In the box

Everything it needs, nothing you have to add.

One vest in your size and color, the reinforced top handle sewn into the frame — not glued on, it's the part that takes the weight — and the detachable chin float already clipped in place. Chest and belly straps adjust with quick-release buckles, and there is a D-ring on the back for a leash.

Rinse it, hang it, it's dry before the next swim.

Not every swim vest does this

These sell everywhere at every price. Here's what the no-name ones leave out.

Foliva Vest A typical budget vest
A float that supports the chin, not just the ribs
Handle stitched into the frame, not glued to the fabric
Adjustable at chest AND belly, not one strap that rides up
Free worldwide shipping with tracking, not a mystery envelope
Quick-dry shell that isn't still wet the next morning
Thirty days to send it back if the fit's wrong

Same idea, cut to a different standard. The cheap ones are cheap for a reason.

The questions people actually ask

Will my dog actually keep it on?
Most dogs adjust within the first swim. Expect a bit of shake-and-wriggle in the first few minutes — that's normal, not a sign it doesn't fit. The chin float clips off if you'd rather introduce it separately.
How do I know what size to get?
Measure chest girth just behind the front legs, and neck girth where the collar sits, then check the size chart on this page. Go by the tape, not by your dog's weight — two dogs at the same weight can be built completely differently. Between two sizes, size up. We also check your measurements against your order and email you before it ships.
Is the handle actually strong enough to lift my dog?
It's stitched into the frame of the vest, not glued to the outer fabric, so it holds for lifting a dog out of the water onto a dock, a boat or the pool deck. With a heavy dog, keep your other hand under their body — and treat the vest as a swimming aid, not rescue equipment.
Does it work for dogs who've never swum before?
That's what the chin float is for — it helps nervous and first-time swimmers keep their head up while they work out the paddling. It's a swimming aid, not a substitute for you: stay within arm's reach on the first few swims, and never leave a dog in or near water unsupervised.
Do you ship to my country?
Almost certainly yes. We ship worldwide and it's free everywhere — the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, the whole of the EU, and most of Asia and Latin America. The price on this page is what you pay; there's no separate shipping line added at checkout wherever you live. Just put your own address in at checkout — you don't need a US address and you don't need a PayPal account, a card on its own is fine. The short list of places we can't reach is in our shipping policy.
How long does shipping take?
Eight to fourteen days to most US addresses. Ten to twenty to Canada, the UK, the EU, Australia and New Zealand. Two to five weeks to the rest of the world, because the parcel travels further and clears more borders on the way. All of it free. Your tracking link lands on day two to four — not the same day, because the vest ships from our fulfilment warehouse rather than a shelf in a back room, and we'd rather tell you that now than have you refreshing a tracking page on day one. Some parcels do run longer than the window, especially internationally; if yours passes the mark, write to us and we'll chase it or refund you.
Will I be charged customs or import tax?
Inside the United States, no — nothing to pay on arrival. Outside it, your parcel crosses a border, so your own country may charge VAT or duty on delivery, and that's paid by you rather than us. In the EU and the UK, expect VAT of somewhere between a sixth and just over a quarter of the order value, since it now applies to every import no matter how small. In Canada, this order sits well above the tax-free limit, so expect GST or HST plus a handling fee from the carrier. In Australia, New Zealand and most of Asia, orders this size usually clear with nothing extra to pay. We can't predict the exact total — every country and every carrier sets its own rate — but we'd rather say this plainly here than have it turn up as a surprise at your door.
Will it hold up to chlorine and lake water?
The shell is quick-dry and rinses clean. Give it a rinse after chlorine specifically — same as you would a wetsuit — and let it air dry before the next trip.
What if the size is wrong?
Thirty days to send it back for an exchange or a refund. It needs to be in a condition we could reasonably resell — worn once is fine, chewed through is not. If you changed your mind or the size is wrong, you cover return shipping; if we sent the wrong item or it arrived damaged, that's on us. Refunds go back to your original payment method within five business days. Write to support@folivalabs.com before sending anything back — full details on the refunds page.

Buckle it on before the next swim.
